Greetings, Seafoodies!
While we’ve been known to whip up a homemade dip as an after-school snack or quick lunch—there is one occasion where this food group really shines.
You guessed it—gatherings!
Raw veggies alone or a platter of pita chips might not inspire excitement, but pair them with a flavorful dip and you’ve got more than just an appetizer—you’ve got a party starter!
As we gear up for another exciting season of tailgating, home-gating and holidays, we’re thrilled to unveil our latest seafood creation. Meet our tried-and-true spicy clam dip! Perfectly timed for August but destined to be a year-round hit, this dip will bring a zesty twist to your game day spread and beyond.
Tangy, creamy and with a little kick of heat—our recipe only contains 6 ingredients and some seasoning, which makes it easy to throw together at half-time or even as guests are pulling into the driveway. Sour cream and Greek yogurt make up the cravable base—which is pretty standard when it comes to building an incredible dip. But then things take a mouthwatering turn.
Our secret ingredient is chopped canned clams—which seriously enhance the already buttery-rich flavor. Add in some garlic, lemon juice, Worcestershire, hot sauce and a dash of seasoning— and you’ve got yourself a unique dip that is out-of-this-world delicious!
Now taste is great, but this wouldn’t be a true Dish on Fish recipe if we didn’t think about nutrition too. Clams add a variety of vitamins (like vitamin C, B12 and riboflavin), minerals (think selenium and iron) and heart-healthy omega-3s into the mix. Plus, this recipe cuts down on calories by replacing some of the sour cream with more Greek yogurt without sacrificing taste or creaminess.
So you can see why this dip should be at the top of your must-try list whenever you want to celebrate with good food and great company. But if you need another reason, dips are also a great way to encourage complicated eaters to get their recommended veggie intake—for both adults and little seafoodies!!
- 6 ounces cream cheese, softened
- ¼ cup plain Greek yogurt (2% or full fat work well)
- 2 (6-ounce) cans minced or chopped clams, drained well
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 teaspoons lemon juice (we recommend freshly squeezed but prepared lemon juice works great, too)
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 Tablespoon fresh chives, chopped
- Dash hot sauce
- Dash of cayenne pepper, optional (if you prefer extra spicy)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Raw vegetable crudites, whole grain crackers or favorite chips for dipping
In a medium mixing bowl, combine cream cheese and yogurt; whip and smash with a fork to remove lumps and mix to make creamy. Add clams, garlic, lemon juice, Worchestershire sauce and hot sauce; mix to combine. Fold in fresh chives and cayenne pepper (if using). Season with salt and pepper, and garnish with chives, if desired. Serve immediately or chilled, with raw vegetables, crackers or chips for dipping.
