Happy June, Seafoodies!
The first day of summer is almost here, and with it comes a bounty of fresh flavors and vibrant colors that always inspire us to get creative in the kitchen! Here at Dish on Fish, we’re all about nourishing, wholesome recipes that embrace the flavors of the season. That’s why we are excited to share our latest meal plan, full of favorite recipes that are tailor-made for this month and all of its celebrations.
June is Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month, which is a good reminder just how important it is to fuel our brains with nutrient-rich foods. Seafood, known for its omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA, is a star player when it comes to brain-healthy eating. From shrimp and avocado toast to Mediterranean salmon bowls, these recipes taste delicious while also supporting optimal cognitive function.
And speaking of fresh and healthy foods… let’s talk about farmer’s markets? Wandering through the bustling stalls, admiring the colorful array of fruits and vegetables, talking with local vendors. It’s not just a fun Saturday activity—it’s a fantastic way to celebrate Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Month! Our summer meal plan is brimming with opportunities to incorporate seasonal produce to add flavor, powerful nutrients and support local growers.
Every year we look forward to June as an opportunity to honor World Oceans Month. The ocean is home to an abundance of global resources, including seafood – an incredible source of healthy protein and essential nutrition. When preparing for this month’s meal plan – try searching for a fishmonger in your area. Or, if you have never visited the fish counter in your local grocery store – now is the time to explore! Fresh, frozen, at home, or when dining out – you can always celebrate the ocean’s bounty!
June also happens to be World Oceans Month. Covering 70% of the earth’s surface, the ocean is home to an abundance of global resources, including seafood—an incredible source of high-quality protein and other beneficial nutrients, like omega-3s, selenium, vitamin D and B vitamins. When preparing for this month’s meal plan, find a local fishmonger in your area you can talk to about fish. Never visited the fish counter at your local grocery store? Well, now’s the time to explore! Fresh, frozen, tinned or pouched, at home or when dining out—you can always celebrate the ocean’s bounty! Want to learn more about the oceans? NOAA has some great resources on World Oceans Month.
If you’re hosting a Pride Month party, an end-of-school BBQ or just a simple family dinner, check out our delicious and mouthwatering grill recipes!— One of our favorite summer tips is to move any meal that requires pan-frying out to the grill to lock in that smokey seasonal flavor! You can even transform your favorite sheet pan dinners into al fresco grilling creations. Just put your seafood right on the grill and throw everything else into a foil pouch next to it!
With all this culinary goodness and so many reasons to celebrate, we hope you enjoy this month’s meal plan.
Wishing you a month filled with delicious food and great company!
